SÖT - TASKS co-operation between the cities of Sundsvall, Östersund and Trondheim Work within the scope of the SÖT co-operation focuses on 3 areas: - regional development/strategy - development as attractive centres for students plus- “green" traffic Final report of the SÖT-project
Regional strategy group
A first draft of a joint, so-called SÖT strategy has been produced: Eurofutures has been commissioned to conduct the first segment of the strategy.
- Preliminary study on SÖT-regions
(by EuroFutures AB)
This describes the different regions based on the respective development and growth programmes by using a number of indicators to make the cities in the SÖT region comparable. Among the factors examined are the role as driving force in the region, knowledge capital, commuting structures, business structure, demographics and gainful employment levels.
SÖT management has proposed, based on the findings of the preliminary study, that from a regional perspective the SÖT co-operation focus on three suggested areas of collaboration:
- Culture and experiences
- Education and expertise
- Infrastructure and communication
Student centre group
Priority areas:
- Marketing activities to attract more students to the SÖT cities; for example, marketing aimed at presumptive students, nationally and internationally.
- Strengthening the links between students and the labour market/business community to get more recent graduates to remain in the SÖT cities and in the region. For example, regional labour market days.
- Action plan; including features such as housing guarantees and transportation benefits.
Green traffic group
Definition of green traffic: Sustainable travel and transports promoting quality of life and reducing impact on the climate - where consideration is given to traffic safety, air pollution and noise.
The project´s content included exchange of experience, knowledge database, video conferencing and comparative indicators. The aim was to spread means to make video conferencing, for example, a possible alternative for meetings as this spares the environment and cuts costs. The following work is being undertaken in the respective cities. Trondheim: transport co-ordination project, cycle path network, freezing bus fares. Sundsvall: car-pooling and vehicle pool. Östersund: mobility office, mobility week, eco-driving, green car pools.
