IMPROVING THE ECO-COMPETITIVENESSIN THE MID NORDIC REGION- final report
The main goal int this work was to develop Mid Nordic Region as a pilot region of environmentally responsible business activities, to increase cooperation and marketing between enterprises of environmental technology, to increase eco- and energy-efficiency in tourism and industry, to raise the level of co-operation of post graduate and polytechnics education in organic food and farming. To improve the eco-competitiveness it is necessary to provide credible information of the achieved results. Whether the enterprises and organizations in the Mid Nordic region are in
the future more eco-competitive than the ones in other regions will ultimately be determined
by the customers. These customers are the current and potential customers of the region´s
businesses; companies looking for a place for relocation, people who live there permanently
or who have their holiday homes there or who come there as tourists; people who are looking
for a new area to move to and young people choosing a place to study or work.
In future the businesses most successful at attracting environmentally aware customers will be those who are best able to demonstrate the ecoefficiency and environmental friendliness of their
products and activities.
I hope that this final report will convince its reader that Mid Nordic Region is one of the
forerunners of environmentally responsible and sustainable development in Europe.
